After a few weeks of not painting, not watching what I eat, and not exercising I decided it was time to get back into the groove. Here is a "warm up" painting I whipped out in about 40 minutes tonight just to get back the feel of painting. I am also working on some designs for the NC Cowparade that will take place in 2012 for charity. Hopefully at least one of my designs will get picked and I will be able to paint a life-sized cow that will be on display for the public next fall.

So I am currently reading some classic art books on recommendation as part of my quest for improvement. I started with Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, and realized after I bought it that I had done several of these execrcises in my Middle School Art Class - I had a great middle school art teacher named Mr. Scott. Anyway, the first exercise is to draw a self portrait to be put away until after all of the exercises are complete. Another self-portrait is then done, hopefully with a tremendous amount of improvement. Here is mine - notice the slack-jawed look of concentration while looking in the mirror. I think on the final one I will smile the whole time even if it hurts. This took about 30 minutes and is a humbling exercise.

Please come out and see me at Greensboro Beautiful's Parisian Promenade. I will have some of my work displayed and will also be doing some live painting. There will also be other artists there as well, a sidewalk cafe, live music, kids' activities, french cooking, family games, gardening tips, and a poodle parade. It is Sunday June 5th from 1 to 5pm (free admission) at Greensboro's Bicentennial Garden. That's me and my husband Andrew on the right, so you will recognize me and I hate to not have a picture when I post.

Just got back from a short weekend in WV. Got to give my dad his birthday portrait and visit with family and friends. Top left is an old pizza pan I painted for my Step mom and Dad to hang above the door to their home. Below is just a really cool stump we came across on a walk. Now, I need to get back to painting...
Oh, and my website (not to be confused with the blog) is finally up, although it needs some additions and adjustments. www.hilarypaints.com

Spent the day yesterday at the Sweet Tea Classic, which is a cool tournament for dogs (and their owners). Met some great people and fell in love with some really beautiful dogs. This tournament was put on by the Fur Fun Flyball Club, and you can check it out at http://www.furfunflyball.com/ or still catch it live today at Fairchild Community Center in Burlington, NC. If you have a dog what a fun thing to do! I have some friends in this club so I had the opportunity to design the logo using their ideas. fun stuff!
